ARN and the The Walkley Foundation have created the ARN Audio Scholarship to foster the next generation of audio journalists. This new scholarship offers early-career journalists the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fast-paced commercial newsroom environments across the ARN network and in both radio and podcasting.
Supported by a $10,000 stipend, the successful applicant will undertake a 10-week placement in one of ARN’s newsrooms nationwide, with the flexibility of choosing a metro, regional, or combined placement. Throughout the program, they will learn how to hone their writing, reporting, producing, presenting, and podcasting skills while receiving direct mentorship from newsroom leaders.

The ARN Audio Scholarship is designed to provide hands-on experience across our large network of newsrooms. We’re removing barriers for emerging talent to access real journalism experience. Direct exposure to commercial news production is invaluable for emerging journalists. The winner of this scholarship will learn everything from finding and writing stories, editing audio, and voicing bulletins – all while working alongside some of the best newsreaders in the country.”
The ARN Audio Scholarship recipient will receive:
• A 10-week placement in one of ARN’s newsrooms across Australia
• Hands-on experience with ARN brands, including KIIS, Gold and the iHeart Your News Now podcast
• Comprehensive training in commercial news production, covering bulletin writing, audio editing, and voicing
• Direct mentorship from ARN newsroom leaders
• A $10,000 stipend to support travel and living expenses
