Tributes flow for Jamie Cammell

Radio veteran Jamie Cammell passed away yesterday; he had been battling depression for a while.

Jamie had a long radio career working in Ipswich, Mackay and Darwin.

He was the head of Corporate Radio and also ran other media businesses such as On Hold Now and Expo Radio

A close friend of his has told radioinfo:

Jamie was a generous soul with a rich and hearty laugh that could be heard for miles.

He was of a curious nature with a cheeky and irreverent sense of humour that seemed to endear him to those he came into contact with. He was an interesting conversationalist, somewhat of a wordsmith and I believe these are some of the qualities that helped Jamie on his journey and throughout his media career in general.

One of Jamie’s strongest virtues was his honesty. You always knew where you stood with Jamie. He was never afraid to speak his mind and if he ever found himself in the wrong, he would be the first to admit it and apologise.

A few years back I was competing in the Talent search at the Gympie Muster and I’d made it into the final on the main stage with some songs I’d written. I learned with short notice that I needed to provide musical charts for the band. With one mention of this Jamie flew into action. He called on contacts and pulled favours from thin air to make certain I had everything I needed, he even commandeered a courtesy car to get me backstage in style. Jamie was in his element.

He was a kind person who would do anything to help a mate and he simply adored his two beautiful children. He will be sadly missed by many.
