Trick netball manoeuvre ignites social media on ABC 774

Who would’ve thought that an amateur suburban Netball game in Melbourne would go viral?

No one, really until a video of a game between the Frankston Bombers and the Sommerville Seagulls found its way onto the 774 website with players interviewed on Rafael Epstein’s Drive Show.

With just two weeks to go in the season and having won just two games, the Bombers were coming last, So, with nothing to lose they thought, “why not try something unusual – something that bends the rules a bit?”

Here’s what they did. With the opposing team shooting for goal, one of the Bombers players dropped to her hands and knees while the other quickly jumped on her back to gain an instant hight advantage enabling her to block the shot.

Frankston Bombers player Tahlia Hartskeerl told  774 ABC Melbourne‘s Rafael Epstein (left), “the move proved controversial on the day, with some calling it “unsportsmanlike”, but said the move was within the rules.

“The young umpire caught a bit of flack about [allowing] it,” Ms Hartskeerl said.
