vega 95.3fm dumps breakfast team

Perhaps Rebecca Wilson saw the writing on the wall when she resigned earlier this year and saved herself the indignity of being axed. No such easy out for Tony Squires and Mikey Robins as Sydney’s vega 93.5 General Manager David Borean announced that they will not be returning to the station next year.

And they won’t be replaced by other personalities (although Todd and Sonia are available). Instead vega will change towards a music-led format in Breakfast with perhaps just a time and temp jock to link the songs.

Borean said in a statement “We thank Tony and Mikey for their stellar contribution to the station during
the past few years, they are consummate professionals and naturally we wish
them all the best for the future.”

The Tony, Bec & Mikey Robins breakfast show will finish up on October 30. The station will switch to a music format for the rest of 2009 and leading into next year will see it focus on its music position across breakfast and throughout the day.

David Kidd, vega 95.3fm Program Director and dmg Group Research Director
said “Listeners love the music on Vega, and they’ve told us they want more of
it and less talk to start their days. Our new music and information format will
be truly unique in Sydney.”
