Just as Ben Fordham wrapped up on his Friday breakfast show on 2GB in Sydney he let loose some AC/DC and Thunderstruck. Lest he make you think you’d switched over to Triple M, he instead hinted that next week someone, a ‘he’, would defect from the MMMs to where they were supposed to be:
There has been industry chat that Nine Radio is for sale, but if that’s the case the talk radio station has been picking up big talent from its music radio comrades. First it was former Triple M man Mark MG Geyer, then Phil O’Neil, who had recently pipped Ray Hadley as No 1 on mornings in Sydney for WSFM, decided to achieve a lifelong dream and head to Nine and overnight talk for 2GB and Brisbane’s 4BC.
My immediate assumption, for Ben to make such a statement, is that Luke Bona will be the one. He is brilliant and beloved overnights, in the spot that Phil O’Neil has just nabbed.
If it’s Luke, or anyone else for that matter, who then makes way for them?
Clinton Maynard has deserved his spot on drive, as does Mark Levy on mornings, both only shifted into those roles this year. With the dearth of female representation surely Deb Knight and Money News wouldn’t go?
We shall see. It’s worth Nine finding a space to Luke Bona and his team, but where is the question still to be answered.
