Who’ll buck the trend in Survey 7?

Survey 7 is out today at 9:30am

By 9:30 this morning we should see some definite trends for the year reflected in radioinfo’s exclusive Trend Charts which compare results for each GfK book going back to Survey 1, 2017.

While it is easy to see the see the hills and troughs at a glance, it’s interesting to compare the results of the previous Survey, 6 of 2018 to Survey 6 of 2017 which tends to eliminate the seasonal fluctuations to which most stations are prone.

For example, in Sydney, market leader 2GB shows a 12.6 share in Survey 6 last year then a dip by Survey 8 to a historic low (for them) of 11.3 and then a steep and steady climb a lofty to 15.4 in Survey 6 just gone.

For sister station 2UE, now Macquarie Sports Radio, they’re at the other end of the scale going from struggling on 3.7 to life support on 0.6 in the space of a year.

Nova 96.9 seems the steadiest of them all with a relatively flat line going from 7.2 in Survey 6 last year to 7.5 this year.

KIIS bobs up and down but the overall trend is reflected in its 8.4 share last year to 7.3 now.

In Melbourne, 3AW had a blinder in the corresponding survey last year but could only manage a 13.5 this time around – which still puts them streets ahead of the number two station in that market, smoothfm on 9.9 who themselves had a 10.5 share a year ago.

Of the major stations, the biggest upward trend in Melbourne belongs to triple j which has gone form a 4.0 to a 6.0 in a year.

While 97.3 and Nova have been battling it out for market leadership in Brisbane, the listening gains have been made by Hit 105, up from 10.5 to 11.8 and Triple M, up from 10.3 to 11.2.

In Adelaide, the biggest upward mover has been FIVEaa and market leader MIX102.3 is back on the rise too.
