April 1st, commercial radio’s favourite day of the year. For an industry that is based on entertainment, the chance to get crazy and creative with practical jokes is irresistible. Listeners wait on with baited breath to see whether their favourite presenter will be dishing out the fun, or finding themselves in the firing line.
At KIIS, it was certainly the presenters being pranked. Kyle woke up to a new hairdo on the KIIS billboards around Sydney, while Jackie got a shock from her pregnant PA.
On Triple M, Gus Worland from The Grill Team was also the butt of a billboard joke. A series of billboards of the team without Gus popped up over Sydney with tagline, “This year, we’ve lost a bunch of weight.”
At WSFM, Jonesy and Amanda told listeners their music system had broken down and their only option was to play dodgy old vinyls.

At 106.3FM Townsville, the breakfast boys CK and Josh pranked their sister station Zinc 100.7. The duo hid 4 doorbells in the Zinc studios pressing them every time the Zinc team went to air.
ZM took a leaf out of Triple J’s book and pranked the back up breakfast team by giving them the last minute call up, and having them broadcast an impromptu show to no one.
And at WAVE FM, they gave away three new ToyYodas. Not Toyotas!
