Mike Williams brings Wide World of Marrickville to Melbourne

Mike Williams is bringing his live audio documentary show Wide World of Marrickville to Melbourne for one night only, Thursday October 24. The show will also feature a short story from Melbourne-based LiSTNR producer, Lindsey Green. The show was a hit at the Sydney Fringe Festival (pictured) where it was shortlisted in Best in Spoken Word and Storytelling.

In Wide World of Marrickville, Mike guides the audience through back streets to meet the iconic characters and locations that make the suburb famous. Meet a footy-mad hairdresser, discover the shopping centre locals love to hate, hear about a community park’s dark past, and try to solve the mystery of a missing sculpture.

This time the show opens with a short story performed live by Lindsey Green. This is Lindsey’s first live story in six years following the finale of People Movers, her independent podcast about escalators.

She said:

“My story is about a holiday you’ll never forget, but for all the wrong reasons. I hope you like it as much as I hated living it.”

The show is performed using edited interviews, live narration, and sound design. Feedback in Sydney included: “I thought it was going to be stand-up comedy but it was quite different. Beautiful storytelling from a true talent. Loved the intimacy.”

Mike said:

“These are stories that are local to me but also utterly universal, told with a decent chunk of humour, a stack of heart, and more than one surprise.”

Mike Williams’ Wide World of Marrickville + Lindsey Green will be at Wesley Anne, Northcote on Thursday, October 24. You can purchase tickets here.
