The Teacher’s Accuser – the third podcast from The Teacher’s Pet team released

The Australian, Hedley Thomas, David Murray, Claire Harvey and Matthew Condon have released a third instalment called The Teacher’s Accuser, to follow on from The Teacher’s Pet and The Teacher’s Trial podcasts.

It will feature news and analysis of already convicted murderer Chris Dawson, who is further accused of allegedly having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old in 1980 while he was married to Lynette Dawson and a physical education teacher on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Teacher’s Pet is the story of the disappearance of Lynette in 1982. That 16-episode podcast is often regarded as the catalyst that encouraged prosecutors to charge Dawson with her murder.

While the murder trial proceeded that podcast was removed from access to curious Australians, finally being made available again, with edits to remove legally sensitive material, in September 2022. It has been downloaded more than 52 million times.

The Teacher’s Trial followed on from this. The Teacher’s Accuser unpacks the current case going through NSW’s District Court, with Chris Dawson also indicating he will appeal his conviction of 24 years in jail for the murder of Lynette.

Claire Harvey, who is Editorial Director of the Australian, told News Corp Australia about the series,

“Hedley’s work and The Teacher’s series of podcasts are among the most significant recent examples of how rigorous journalism can tell a story to capture the entire nation’s psyche.”
