After 36 years on radio in Perth, more than three decades of them with GOLD96FM, much loved broadcaster Mark ‘Smiley’ Pascoe was made redundant last week.
Head of Content for the GOLD Network Sue Carter said:
“As one of Perth’s longest-serving on-air personalities, Smiley has made an enormous contribution to the station and our listeners over many years. True to his nickname, he is one of the most genuine, warm and positive people you could ever have the pleasure of working with.
His passion, professionalism and connection with the audience have made him a much-loved member of the team. He leaves with our sincere gratitude and best wishes for the future.“
Smiley’s 30th anniversary saw the station roll out the red carpet in his honour. He said at the time:
“From the age of 12 I only had one dream, to be a Radio Announcer on 96FM and every morning at 9 o’clock I get to live out that dream! I truly am the luckiest guy in the world.”
In the recent GfK Radio 360 Survey 4, Smiley was up 2.4% to a 15.6% audience share 10+, just 0.2 behind Nova 93.7.
Kendall Crake is currently covering GOLD96FM mornings. Producers for the Lisa and Russell breakfast show, Suzy Oldfield and Liz Walker, have also made redundant.
Meanwhile Christian O’Connell‘s Golden Years series, which was just airing on Sydney’s GOLD 101.7 from 9-10am weekdays, has also wrapped up.
