Happy Christmas & New Year from Radioinfo

From this afternoon we will be wrapping presents, putting them under the tree, planning Christmas lunch and stocking up the bar in preparation for the big day.

So we’ll be too busy to do much reporting over the next few weeks!

Just like you probably.

We will turn off our regular daily radio news alert emails so as not to clog your inbox, but we will leave the job alert emails on in case you are spending the Christmas break job hunting.

If stories break, we will still cover them, but we may be a little slower than usual to get them published. But please keep sending us news to [email protected] and job ads to [email protected].

We wish you a Happy Christmas and a prosperous new year in 2025.

Our lead reporter Jen Seyderhelm‘s favourite story thread this year was the discovery of “Steve Stuff” who restores old buses while having a fairly high profile radio job on the side, which led to the 2MC fun bus, then Albert the bus that drove from Sydney to London and finally to a different high profile radio announcer, we’ll call him “Santa” who just happens to restore old buses in his spare time too.

Jen would like more of these stories please!

This year we were busier than ever, publishing 1473 reports about the radio, podcast and audio technology industries. Next year we plan to expand to cover more audio technology stories as a result of your comments in our readership survey. Have you filled it in yet?

Our busiest months were February and November. February was due to back to work listener activities after the January school holidays ended, and November was because this year has been a particularly turbulent time for staff changes and redundancies.

You probably read about Wendy’s work on our On This Day section, if not, check it out here and sign up for our low cost paid access here.

In 2024 our readership has continued to increase, with 2.3 million page views in the past 12 months. On average our readers view 2 to 3 stories per visit. Our advertisers received good value from us last year, with 728,000 readers eyeballing their ads for between 38 -85 seconds per page.

Our most visited page is the front page, with 357,592 hits this year, and also our news and jobs pages.

The Ray Hadley story (#3) was read by 38,877 people, he even beat Taylor Swift! The changes at the ABC (#5) was read by 14k people, the Survey 6 story (#6) was read by 11k people and the ACRAs winners story (#8) was read by 10k people. The passing of Bill Caralis and Ron E Sparx also featured in our top 25 most read articles.

These were our most read stories in 2024.

With this sort of readership and influence, do you advertise with us? If not, maybe you should! Email [email protected].

In this business, many of us don’t get too much time off, because radio never sleeps!

If you’re working these Christmas and New Year weeks, we hope things go well. If you have time off, have a restful break with those close to you and return fresh and energetic for another year in the radio, or podcast or audio industry in 2025.

We will be in holiday mode until 16th January 2025, resuming just before the first survey begins. Our email alerts are off until then. Wendy has already been getting out of office messages. Some of her favourites are:

Nozz (as always)

Hi thanks for writing, I’m currently having a corking time on leave punting down the Yarra river in my boater hat singing old high school anthems like its 1935! I’ll be back on deck tickety boo from Monday. Until then why not enjoy listening  to all the ARIA Award winners

Blair

This is when I pack away all the Create Consult Research Tools, slip on the boardies, pack the family tribe up (all 8 of us), and paddleboard off into the pristine waters on the coast. Yep, it’s time for a holiday escape and a long, hot summer. Festive Season vibes your way, cause you are special (insert your name here) and received this auto-reply.

Michelle

Hello, I am either reading a book, sewing something fabulous or sipping a cocktail, enjoying annual leave from Friday afternoon 13th December, returning Monday 13th January.  Happy Christmas and Happy New Year.

Tess

Hello! I am getting married!! Yes –  I am also surprised I tricked someone to stick with me for the rest of my life. I am out of the office on Annual Leave celebrating on my honeymoon by sipping coconuts, reading Romantacy and getting sunburnt.

Ed

Hello, Thanks for writing; my ABC workdays are Thursday – Sunday. If you are in need of urgent musical care, please contact Samuel …

Samantha

Hey, I’m putting my 278 day streak on Duolingo to good use and I’m on leave in Japan until 29th August. I won’t have access to my e-mails, so in my absence please hit up the very demure [email protected]
