General Manager of 2TM and 92.9FM Tamworth, Nikki Kenwrick, is about to depart the country music capital and Super Radio Network after eight years, to make the move to Port Stephens.
Nikki’s first job in radio was with 2EA in Sydney. Throughout her career she has also worked for SBS-TV, the Country Leader and other Newspaper publications.
She said she has been fortunate to have worked with some truly amazing and talented people and projects, including:
- Launching 2TM Discovered. An annual vocal competition held during the Tamworth Country Music Festival, providing a platform for emerging artists to perform at a finalist concert. The winner receives a prestigious trophy, radio airplay, and other fantastic prizes.
- Overseeing the installation of a history wall in the courtyard that plays homage to 2TM and 92.9fm’s history and features a hand-made golden guitar sculpture by Troy Kenwrick.
- The 2TM / 92.9 Bra-B-Q. An outside broadcast event developed to provide local support and awareness to Breast Cancer Awareness month, raising money for Serendipity Tamworth.
- Writing, designing and selling the 2TM 85th Anniversary Cookbook for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to raise money for this vital service to the Tamworth region. Celebrities including country music artist Felicity Urquhart, TV presenter Kylie Gillies, radio personality John Laws, and superstar Dolly Parton all donated recipes for the book.
- Designing and overseeing the installation of the street art signage on the roadside entrance to the station. This includes a monumental-sized pop art sign of JB for Brekky, and a commemorative re-make of a vintage 2TM poster celebrating the 50th Tamworth Country Music Festival.
- Becoming a finalist in the 2024 ACRA Awards for best station produced commercial.
For Nikki, maintaining localism has been crucial to the ongoing success at both 2TM and 92.9fm, as well as providing a professional, reliable, and enjoyable radio service to the Tamworth region. She has formed some wonderful relationships with local business owners, helping them not only with advertising but also with their overall marketing efforts but says leading an exceptional team, and witnessing them grow and thrive, is what she’ll miss the most:
‘As part of the creative team during my management, I have overseen many successful promotions and events, which give me enormous pride.’
Nikki’s last day is this Friday, February 14th.
The owners of the Super Radio Network, Despina Priala and George Caralis, wish to thank Nikki for her years of dedication, service and loyalty to the SRN family, and to the Tamworth community which has been invaluable. Nikki will be very much missed by the SRN family and we wish her every success for the future.
