ABC Radio Hobart rugs up Tassie for 2024

Do you know how to knit? Doesn’t matter if you don’t, ABC Radio Hobart has launched their long-running annual winter appeal, Rug Up Tassie, with guidance for all ages and skill levels to get involved. The appeal supports Tasmanians with limited access to shelter and heating.

People are encouraged to get out their knitting needles to make and donate 20cm wool squares which are joined together by a team of ABC volunteers to create blankets. These are donated by partner charities to those doing it tough.

ABC Radio Hobart Manager, Samantha Stayner, is hoping to collect over 5,000 squares:

“As we continue to live through a cost-of-living crisis, Rug Up Tassie allows almost anyone to get involved, and help out the Tasmanian community in a meaningful way. We have seen the generosity and determination of Tasmanians taking part in this appeal in the past, so we know our local community can come together and help make a difference to those who need it most.”

Drop off points for knitted squares are located at ABC Hobart, 1-7 Liverpool Street Hobart and the Salvation Army state office at Derwent Park.

The address for postal donations, how-to guides for knitting the squares and further information can be found here.
