ABC Reporter’s Failed Court Action despite Broken Back

An ABC journalist, who broke her back while covering the Thredbo landslide, has failed in a bid to sue a local resort.

Seven years ago, Julie Posetti was on her way to a media conference, on her first morning at the Thredbo Village, when she slipped on an icy ramp and broke her back.

The ACT Supreme Court has heard that Posetti was unable to return to work as a Federal Parliamentary reporter and has had to stop working as a journalist. The reporter says her career has been ruined by the injuries and ongoing pain.

She sued for damages, claiming the ramp was too steep to meet building regulations and the handrail was unsuitable. The court, however, has ruled in favour of Kosciusko Thredbo Pty Ltd, which operated the resort, saying Posetti failed to establish her case on the balance of probabilities.
