Applications open for triple j’s Unearthed High, this year with a radio show too

The search has begun for Australia’s best high school aged artist in the 2024 edition of Unearthed High. This year triple j have also introduced an accompanying school radio show too.

Unearthed High has already uncovered, over the last 16 years, the next generation of talented artists like The Kid Laroi, Sycco, Gretta Ray, Hockey Dad, Teenage Joans and Genesis Owusu. If you are an artist or in a band, in years 7 to 12, get your best music uploaded before August 12.

Last year’s champion LEE. was just fourteen years old and has already gaining global reach. You can see watch the moment triple j breakfast hosts Bryce and Concetta surprised him with the win below:

There is also a new prize for whoever is crowned in 2024 with triple j flying them to a songwriting session with their choice of one of four huge Australian artists – Cosmo’s Midnight, Kobie Dee, Peach PRC or Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers.

There is also the return of the Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative, celebrating the best Unearthed High entry from a First Nations artist and gives them a chance to win a songwriting workshop at their school, courtesy of the APRA AMCOS’ Songmaker Program. 

Finally, triple j Unearthed have also launched Unearthed High After Class, a new radio show by, for and about high school students. Broadcasting every Thursday at 3:30pm, Unearthed will feature a half-hour special of songs entered in this year’s competition that is hosted by year eleven students.
