Radioinfo’s Peter Saxon caught up with ARN‘s Chief Content Officer Duncan Campbell about GfK Radio 360‘s Survey 4 2023. KIIS 106.5’s breakfast team of Kyle and Jackie O (down 0.8 to 17.1) dropped behind 2GB’s Ben Fordham (up 3.1 to 18.1) for the first time this year, with rumours swirling that the KIIS duo are considering a move back to SCA when their contract expires next year.
It’s been a decade since Kyle sat down with Duncan and discussed a switch from SCA’s 2Day FM to KIIS, with their audience following and increasing in the years since. Campbell says Kyle and Jackie are happy where they are:
“As far as we’re concerned it’s business as usual. They like being here. There’s nothing that warrants us getting overly concerned about that at the moment.”
The drop behind Fordham doesn’t concern him either:
“What was the famous line? It’s a long game, played slowly. We look at these things very differently to you because you guys look at the snapshot of the day and we’re looking at that snapshot in the context of what’s gone before and if are we seeing any sort of real trend developing. There’s a positive trend developed for KIIS. To end up at 17.1 halfway through the year is, for Kyle and Jackie O, extraordinary.
Campbell also said that he was happy with ARN’s results in Adelaide and Perth and congratulated NOVA on their success in Melbourne off the back of strong advertising, saying:
“All the ingredients are there in terms of the cume. We just need to again convert that. But that’s proving more challenging than I expected.”
