KIIS 101.1’s Kyle and Jackie O head to Melbourne while Nova 100’s Jase and Lauren Gather Round in Adelaide

Today, Friday April 11, is the last day of GfK Survey 2 with results out on Tuesday April 29. April 29 also is the one year anniversary of Kyle and Jackie O‘s launch into Melbourne on KIIS 101.1 and they would love to see numbers worth celebrating that day.

This morning the duo and much of their support team including Intern Pete, Lachie Mansell and Cooper Johns broadcast from Melbourne for a much publicised $5 million dawn dig at St Kilda West Beach. Chosen contestant Alisha didn’t win the cash but did drive home in a new Suzuki Vitara. She chose bag 20. The winner was 163.

The hundreds who turned up also had the opportunity to dig for prizes, enjoy performances from Amy Shark and recent Australian idol winner Marshall Hamburger and then afterwards hear from Kyle and Jackie O who said:

Jackie O Henderson: “This is just the beginning for us in Melbourne. We’re blown away by the love and energy the city has shown us.”

Kyle Sandilands: “We’re digging it here already. We’ve only just started, so get ready to see more of us soon.”

Their first competition foray in Melbourne earlier this year, a 100K tennis ball drop, Kyle and Jackie O did not attend but instead covered from their Sydney studios. Alongside their promise to behave this year it appear ARN are also realising how important their presence is on the ground for promotions such as this.

Meanwhile one of their FM rivals, Nova 100‘s Jase and Lauren, who were ousted from KIIS 101.1 to make way for K&J, left Melbourne on the last day of survey and headed to South Australia and the Adelaide Oval for the AFL’s Gather Round.

Their guests included Richmond Tigers star Jack Riewoldt, former Cats player Tom Hawkins, AFL Executive General Manager of Football, Laura Kane, Channel 7 footy presenter Bec Maddern and Shane Warne’s son Jackson Warne. Lauren Phillips said how much Jackson is like his dad:

Clint Stanaway: The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree… having interviewed him so many times before.

Lauren: You’re very similar. Do you get that a lot?

Jackson: Thank you. I get that a lot, and I’ve only just started as I’ve gotten older, watching more of the older footage when he was in his late 20s, early 30s, videos I’ve never seen before, just I’ve noticed some mannerisms, how he talks, how he says a few words. I’ve gone ah… and [Helen Nolan] who I’m also with just noticed she was reading my phone of me sending a message, and I’m reading it over make sure I’ve got the commas and exclamation marks in the right place. H went oh, my god, you’re so much like your dad. He used to read a message for 10 times before he sent it. So that was just one of the things as well.

Jase Hawkins: … Well, can I ask? You don’t have to answer, mate, I lost my dad couple of years ago as well. And whether you believe in it or not, sometimes, you know, everyone’s got that thing where it’s almost like a sign that they’re watching you. You know, for us, it was like a feather, you know, and we’d go fishing and there’d be a feather just in the boat, you know, fishing. My boys were like, it’s great. You know, it’s granddad watching us. Have you got something that triggers memories or know he’s watching over you?

Jackson: Oh definitely. And sorry to hear about your dad, but we see signs every single day, like, for example, I was just talking to Rooey, and we were talking about Dad, we were talking about Augusta, because the Masters had just started. And we brought up dad’s hole in one as soon as we finish the interview, 8.23, and so I see signs everywhere. He’s in the clocks, he’s everywhere I look. I see signs. I always find myself when I’m driving adding up the numbers of the number places to see if it adds up to 23 but yeah, I see signs every day. I feel him every day. Still think about him every day. So even though he’s not here physically, he’s definitely still here in spirit.

Not a bad day to not be in Melbourne for Jase, Lauren and Clint, but to still bring the spirit of the city (and Shane) with them.
