Pirate Pop-Up plans “moderately-informative” Election Party

774 ABC Melbourne’s Jon Faine has gone rogue, with an election night broadcast that promises to be a rave that will last until democracy triumphs! Who’d want to miss that?

Forget your typical election night show, with serious people saying “bell-weather”, experts frothing and a lot of graph action. There’ll be none of that.

While the real election coverage is broadcast nationally on ABC News Radio, Faine will broadcast his special on the 774 ABC online stream and 774 Digital and ABC Extra on DAB + digital station. Meanwhile, footy fans can tune into 774 ABC Melbourne on analogue to get the regular Saturday night AFL coverage.

Management says, that like the Senate, it’s going to get a bit wild as a huge roster of special guests celebrates the 2016 Federal Election in a poll-defying frenzy of fun. It’ll be a high-laugh, low-rent broadcast in front of a live audience at the Melbourne Bowls Club.

The Election Party pop-up program from 6pm – 10pm will provide the basic information but not the serious electoral minutiae.

Instead the 774 broadcast will feature comedians, musicians, subversives and skeptics. ABC reporters at key locations across the nation will buzz in, along with election winners and losers, particularly the losers.

The 774 Election Party will be a moderately-informative rave that will last until democracy triumphs.

You can join the party on Saturday 2 July, 6pm to 10pm at www.abc.net.au/melbourne or tune in to 774 ABC Melbourne or ABC Digital Extra on DAB+ digital radio.
