Radio host named as a castaway

Barry Lea from Star 102.7 in Cairns has been named as one of 24 castaways in the reality TV show Australian Survivor, filmed in Samoa.

The 44 year old is described in his bio as “… a confident, articulate, strong, laid-back, funny and successful Aboriginal/South Sea Islander. He has the gift of the gab and currently works at Star FM in Cairns. Barry represents the quintessential Australian larrikin and has a big personality that will no doubt see him loved by all on the island”.

Barry is a weekend and fill-in announcer at the station along with doing regular crosses in the breakfast show each morning.

Contestants range in age from 23 to 62 and will be deprived of basic comforts along with building their own shelter, lighting their own fires, gathering their own food and fending for themselves.

Should Barry be the sole survivor he’ll pick up half a million dollars.
