Scott Mayman returning to Australia

Australian radio journalist, Scott Mayman, who was injured in a car accident in the USA recently and is coming back home to Australia, had a good send off from the station where he had been working for several years.

Since his accident, he has been campaigning for an increase in seatbelt wearing in America.

He writes to radioinfo:

To remember my time as News Director of News/Talk KCMO-AM,
there was a surprise phone call … from former CBS News Anchor, WALTER CRONKITE

It seems we have a lot in common. Before reading TV News for CBS, Walter worked at News/Talk KCMO-AM.

The call was organised by staffers for the Mayor of Kansas City. (Mayor Kay Barnes and Walter Cronkite are cousins)

I was absolutely blown away – my phone rang and the voice on the end said “Do you want to speak with Walter Cronkite?” At first, I thought it was a joke, so I looked at the Caller ID and sure enough, the call came from CBS in New York.

I felt so honoured to have spoken with a living legend, such as Walter Cronkite.

As I say goodbye to my colleagues in Kansas City radio,
I go home to my friends and family in South-East Queensland … and my NEW colleagues at MIXFM/SEAFM on the Sunshine Coast.
