GfK Radio 360 Survey 4 – a preview

The mid year radio survey results for Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Brisbane, measured in one solid block from Sunday April 19 to Saturday June 27 is out on Tuesday morning July 14 at 9:30am.

This time last year was perhaps the final time that ARN might have hoped things would come good for Kyle and Jackie O in Melbourne. They were up 0.5 there, and 1.4% to 13.9 audience share 10+ in Sydney, nipping again at the heels of 2GB‘s Ben Fordham.

It was a surprisingly poor result for then Nine Entertainment stations 2GB and the indomitable Ross and Russ (pictured) on 3AW Breakfast. Especially as it is, and was, mid NRL and AFL seasons. Since then Ross and Russ have added 2.5% to be at 19.1 audience share, more than double anyone else bar Christian O’Connell on Gold 104.3.

This will be nearly a full first survey for Tapt Media whose aquisition of 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR completed on May 1. They would like to see plusses overall in all four, and even for Ross and Russ.

Since then too Christian O’Connell has pushed into Sydney on Gold 101.7 at the expense of stablemates Jonesy and Amanda. That move appeared to be bearing fruit in Survey 3 and it would be a real coup if The Christian O’Connell Breakfast show overtook KIIS 1065 this survey. Not that ARN would be happy about the latter, but it would show some further evidence that a national breakfast show can, maybe, work.

Drive is starting to be a lot more interesting and competitive this year too. Jonesy and Amanda on the GOLD Network, Fitzy, Wippa and Kate for Nova, the Hit Network’s Carrie and Tommy (with Loren Barry doing a great job while Carrie was unwell) and Will and Woody on KIIS. There’s been a lot more attention to drive since the Nova and Gold teams joined the equation.

Then there’s the surprise packets like SEN 1116 in Melbourne whose breakfast teams of Kane & Kingy, Gary & Tim swooped to a 6% survey 3, above KIIS 101.1 and the local ABC.

In Brisbane, but no longer a surprise, is BBQ Bob on 4BH who moved beyond an 11% audience in Survey 3 and the station second in the Brisbane market.

In WA, the one to watch on breakfast are Mix 94.5′s Pete & Kymba, who this year have steadily closed the gap on the long running leaders Nath, Nat and Shaun on Nova 93.7.

Across the country, the Triple M network are rebuilding after some missteps last year. Roo, Ditts and Loz already hold No 1 spot in Adelaide. This will be the last full survey for triple j‘s Concetta and Luka, before Abby & Tyrone take over breakfast this Monday.

And, Nova Entertainment’s smooth 95.3 in Sydney, the No 1 station in the city, could really see their gentle ripples cause a whirlpool by becoming the first all female team in a long time to take top spot on breakfast in a metro market.

Radioinfo will have all the results here, plus the spin, DAB and the cumes, from 9:30am on Tuesday July 14.
