The latest Xtra Insights survey of Launceston, Tasmania has Chilli FM well on top for all audiences 10+ and in most day parts. Chilli FM and ARN sister station LAFM have more than a 50% audience share.
This is the first survey of the region in three years where Chilli FM first pulled away from other stations in the region for listening. Both stations breakfast teams have changed with Adam and Issy (pictured) at Chilli up 1.3 to 34.2 and Richard Perno on LAFM also up 2.6 to 17.2. Richard took over breakfast from Jules Pemble-Smith earlier this year with the pair doing the old switcheroo, and Jules moving to Richard’s former Morning slot. Jules has been with the station more than a decade now, and was on breakfast with Glenn Hartas in 2021, before he left the industry early 2022.
Natalie Castle the General Manager Chilli and LAFM said:
All the ABC stations saw a decline with the exception of Radio National. That being said, triple j, down 2.7 overall and taking a hit in audiences 18-54, saw a spike in listening in the evenings (as did LA FM) and were ahead of Chilli in that timeslot, the only day part that Chilli didn’t own.
Really positive was that cumulative listening was up for all. Interestingly Launceston got DAB+ in September last year, which I thought might have accounted for some of the additional listeners, but LAFM and Chilli FM opted out of getting digital licences, so the move only affects the ABC, SBS and SEN Track listening audience.
