A tale of two networks – GfK Radio 360 Survey 4 cumes

The cumulative audience numbers in a GfK radio survey give a general idea of what might be to come. A big jump, of the likes that Melbourne‘s Nova 100 and its breakfast show hosted by Jase, Lauren and Clint (pictured) achieved in Survey 4, bode very well for Survey 5.

Large drops, like KIIS 1065 in Sydney have seen post Kyle and Jackie O, and this survey for The Christian O’Connell Show on the GOLD stations in Sydney and Melbourne, don’t bode well for the future. The cumulative audience for KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne has overtaken Sydney, and Survey 5 might do the same in Breakfast too. This is unchartered territory for ARN.

The results for Nova Entertainment however should be celebrated. They have the largest listening audience in Sydney for smooth 95.3, followed by Nova 969. In Melbourne, for Nova 100, in Perth for Nova 93.7 and even in Adelaide for Nova 91.9. The only city where they aren’t No 1 for cume audience is Brisbane.

Breakfast, they hold four of the top five largest listening audiences in the country for Jase, Lauren and Clint, Bogart Torelli on smooth Sydney, Ricki-Lee and Tim on Nova 969 and, at fifth, Mike Perso on smooth 91.5 Melbourne.

This survey Clint Stanaway was added, formally, to the Nova 100 breakfast team and listeners are liking it. The 140K gain in station cume audience is quite remarkable.

A drop in cume audience doesn’t always mean a ratings drop – as is the case of BBQ Bob Gallagher on 4BH in Brisbane. He was up 0.2 to 11.3 on breakfast, a new record high, but his cume audience dropped around 20K. This might just mean that the regulars are listening longer, which you also see in the numbers of Ross and Russ on 3AW, which are a fair bit lower than Jase, Lauren and Clint’s, but Ross & Russ’s 20% breakfast audience share is near double Nova 100’s and Fifi, Fev and Nick‘s on The Fox FM.

However Ross and Russ saw cume and percentage gain this survey and they, 2GB‘s Ben Fordham and Triple M Sydney and Melbourne are all starting the threaten ARN’s numbers.

So that SCA doesn’t get forgotten, Fifi, Fev and Nick and The Fox FM in Melbourne were the only things between Nova Entertainment and a clean sweep of the top 5. As mentioned Triple M Sydney and Melbourne are building and could overtake KIIS stations in Survey 5. ABC Melbourne was much improved, as was SEN 1116, further building on Survey 3. The only station to really take a hit there was GOLD 104.3.

The cumulative charts are below. Full Survey 4 results can be found here.
