Conversations is Apple’s most popular podcast of 2023

While Spotify had everyone sharing their favourite songs and artists of 2023 “wrapped” yesterday, Apple Podcasts also released their year end charts for Australia which make for interesting reading.

The number one most popular podcast is Conversations, the ABC interview show hosted by Richard Fidler or Sarah Kanowski. By chance I heard Kanowski talking with Sandy Mackinnon today, on radio. Mackinnon is a man who sets up treasure hunts, amongst many other things and as I and Sarah giggled along with Sandy I was aware how glorious, and timeless, what I was hearing was. Clearly the premise of what Fidler started back in 2012 resonated with a lot more than me.

The top new podcast is the Mamamia produced, Clare Stephens hosted But Are You Happy? with two other Mamamia podcasts in the top ten shows. The rest of the new podcast list is almost all true crime, showing just howmuch Australians love the genre.

The Imperfects was most followed, shared and had the most shared individual episode. There are similarities, thematically between it and But Are You Happy?. LiSTNR was the top free supplier with regular Australian Podcast Ranker No 1’s Hamish and Andy and Casefile True Crime also featuring in the top ten shows.

Apple Podcasts will reveal a Show of the Year next Wednesday December 6.
